March Break Activity Ideas!

If you’re looking for simple, hands-on activities to do at home with your kids over March Break, we have some suggestions for you!

March Break would be a great opportunity for kids to dive into the fascinating world of gardening and seed starting. They can learn the process of germinating seeds and watch how a tiny seed transforms into a plant over time.

Introduce your kids to the wonderful world of tropical plants by helping them create and maintain a terrarium!

For your terrarium, you will need:

• A clear glass container. We have some beautiful glass containers with a wood base for only $19.99 each!
• A small bag of indoor potting soil, like Fafard Connaisseur Mix, available in a 5L ($5.99) or a 10L ($7.99) bag.
• Small succulents and cacti ($3.99 and up). We encourage you to choose succulents and cacti with different shapes, colours, and textures!

Here are some optional supplies:

• Decorative rocks or sand. Polished river rocks are one of our favourite additions to terrariums. Small containers are available for $4.99!
• Fun décor you may already have at home, like shells, marbles, plastic animals, etc.

Floral arranging is another fun and creative activity you can do at home with your kids during their time off from school!

If you’re interested in making a floral euro, like one of the ones pictured, come in and talk to one of our experienced florists! They will help you gather all the supplies you need! They’ll also give you an instruction sheet and care handout to take home with you that will simplify this project even more.

For only $12, you will receive a 3” glass cube, a piece of floral oasis, aspidistra ribbon, assorted floral greens, baby’s breath and either a single rose, a gerbera daisy, or a spider mum.

Kids up to age 12 can enter our spring colouring contest!

Kids can colour in-store or take a colouring page home with them to colour later. Completed colouring pages must be dropped off at Vermeer’s by Saturday, April 20th, 2024, for a chance to win a surprise prize!

Let’s play a game of I spy at Vermeer’s!

Keep an eye out for certain photos hidden throughout the greenhouse! Use our I spy sheet to check off all the photos of common spring items you can find. Before leaving, hand in your completed I spy sheet for a chance to win a spring gift basket!
