As we reflect on the past year and the challenging circumstances we have all faced in our homes, in our families and in our businesses, we are reminded how much we have to be thankful for. This year we celebrated 60 years of business in our hometown, Welland. Mom and Dad Vermeer opened Vermeer’s back in 1961. With a deep-rooted belief and an enormous amount of hard work, their dream came to fruition. These humble beginnings started with their family and a small handful of employees. Fast forward to 2021, this year we were blessed with a new grandson (our third grandchild) and we are awaiting the arrival of another precious grandchild. We now have 65 employees that have grown to love their jobs and embrace their responsibilities with love and commitment while serving our community. Our sister, Margaret, who has been with Vermeer’s since the beginning carries on our parents’ legacy in all that she does at Vermeer’s today.

If there has ever been a time where we need our community and to thank our community, the time is now! Thank you to our valued customers for the immense generosity you have shown and the love you’ve given to our entire Vermeer’s employee-family. Your generosity has had an amazing impact on many non-profit organizations such as Open Arms Mission, Pelham Cares, Pathstone Mental Health, Gillian’s Place, The Hope Centre, Rose City Kids and numerous other fundraisers that we have been a part of this past year. You have helped support the aforementioned causes this Christmas season by attending our Merry and Bright – A Night of Lights at Vermeer’s fundraising event and by purchasing our annual Giving Tree ornament. Over $13,000 was raised at our fundraising event and a total of $4,000 was raised from our Giving Tree!

We look forward to the future of Vermeer’s Garden Centre and Flower Shop. While reflecting on our past and how deeply we are rooted in our community, we are excited to announce that Vermeer’s has expanded to a second wholesale growing location. With this expansion, we will continue to serve our customers for many more years to come! The saying “there’s always something growing on at Vermeer’s” holds true now and in the future.

We would like to thank our community for the life that they have shared with us and we thank God for it all! It is our prayer that you will have a Blessed Christmas with your loved ones. May you be filled with love, new joys and peace in the New Year!
