If you would like to decorate the outside of your home this Christmas with custom designed porch pots from Vermeer’s, we encourage you to save any 10” or 12” plastic fall mum pots you may have.

It is important to keep these plastic pots because placing fresh greens into a pot with established roots and soil results in a much sturdier porch pot.

When you are ready to dispose of your fall mums, simply cut them down so that only the rooted soil remains, as shown here.

If you do not have any fall mums, you can cut down your summer planters and bring those in to Vermeer’s to order a custom designed porch pot.

Our porch pot experts can create something traditional or unique that suits your style. Check out some of our custom porch pots from 2022.

If you would like to order a custom porch pot from Vermeer’s we will not be accepting any plastic pots, inserts or decorations until Monday, November 6th. Starting Tuesday, October 10th, you can call us to reserve your porch pot date. We receive a high volume of custom porch pot orders every year. Therefore, we encourage you to reach out to us and reserve your date so that you will receive your porch pots on time.

If you’re thinking about ordering custom porch pots from Vermeer’s, here is a list of some do’s and don’ts that will help inform you of the process.

DO: Save your 10″ or 12″ plastic fall mum pots or plastic summer planter inserts with their rooted soil and bring them in to Vermeer’s to be recycled and revamped for the Christmas season.

DON’T: Do not throw out your plastic pots/inserts! We will be charging extra if you do not bring in your own plastic inserts. Prices will vary depending on the size and the style of the insert chosen.

DO: Cut down the plants in your plastic inserts, but keep the soil and roots.

DON’T: Do not bring in plastic inserts with leftover plant material (leaves, stems, etc.). Dispose of any leftover plant material, but do not dispose of the soil and roots.

DO: Test out your plastic inserts, making sure that the rim goes over the edge of the decorative pots you are placing them into.

DON’T: Do not choose plastic inserts that are too small or too large for the pot you are placing them into or your fresh greens will not sit nicely.

DO: Go through any porch pot decorations you have from last year (ornaments, cones, ribbon, etc.) and decide what you would like to reuse this year.

DON’T: Do not bring in any old dogwood, curly willow, magnolia/dried greens or broken decorations to be reused.

DO: Test out any electric or battery operated lights you would like incorporated into your custom porch pot to make sure they are working properly.

DON’T: Do not forget to bring in batteries if you are using battery operated lights. We will be charging extra for batteries if they are not provided.

DO: Pre-label your plastic inserts and the container/bag you are storing your porch pot decorations in before bringing them to Vermeer’s. On the label, please write your first and last name, as well as your phone number.

DON’T: Do not bring in any loose decorations. Store them in a container or a bag. Don’t forget to label them before arriving at Vermeer’s!
